Courage and Kindness
When I realized they made a movie for an amazing book, I had to go and see it. Wonder is a very inspirational and emotional book to read. The book and movie both had some differences and many similarities, but overall they both were able to describe and show the importance of the book.
The beginning of the book starts off by meeting the main character, August Pullman. Other important characters in the book are Jack Will, Charlotte, and Julien. Children's literature was an appropriate genre for the author to choose because it could be easier for younger readers to understand. August was born with a deformation in his face and has been homeschooled his whole life. His family likes to say that August is just an ordinary kid, with an extraordinary face. He is in fifth grade, and his parents are starting to make some decisions that August is unsure about. All his family members call him Auggie instead of August. His mother, father, and sister have always been protecting him and making sure his life was the best as could be. After making a decision of going to public school for the first time, he decided to take a risk and try it out. Doing that, he has been having a few tragedies but also many positive actions have occurred. The three other students have helped out August before the school year started by giving a tour around the school to make him feel more secure. Not all three of them are very pleasant to August but two make an effort to support him.
In my opinion, this book’s genre is children’s literature and yet it’s an empowering book. Though I've only read a portion of the book, it has showed many concepts of being courageous and many other positive things. If you have watched the movie and enjoyed it, you would love the book. The movie is basically the book but in a more visual version.
The big reason I've enjoyed my book so far, was the fact that August was able to step up to something he wasn’t sure about to begin with and faced it. At the start of my book, he was having a peaceful life and not needing to stress over things about his disformation. Once the subject of public school was brought up, he was scared of getting bullied about the way he looks even though he is a brilliant kid. Though there are these bullies at the school, he has been able to make a connection to a few students at the school and has even impressed his teachers with his intelligence.
I would recommend this book to anyone who has seen the movie Wonder. Not just because they are about the same topic, but because you can get a visual view from the movie and a more detailed view from the book. I would also recommend the book to people who love emotional stories and love to see children step up to the plate. Anyone who loves books about family values is also key. The book shows how much their family fights for each other and makes sure one another is safe.
