Abandoned In The Desert

                                                               Holes
                                                                                   By: Louis Sachar

Imagine being falsely accused and sent away to the middle of the desert for years for a crime you did not commit.

Holes is a novel written by Louis Sachar. It is about a young boy named Stanley Yelnats who was falsely convicted of stealing a pair of very expensive shoes. Stanley was sentenced to 18 months of punishment at Camp Green Lake. The name of the camp may not sound too bad, but the camp itself is a lot worse than imagined. Camp Green Lake is located in the middle of the desert hundreds of miles away from where Stanley lives in California. At the camp Stanley notices there are no fences or security anywhere around him, also there is no lake or any kind of water way in sight. Stanley meets the warden and also the officers that control the kids. They seem very strict and mean and there are a lot of tough rules that Stanley will have to follow. Including waking up at 6 AM every morning to dig a 6 foot hole. There are lots of other kids Stanley's age at the camp, based on their looks they appear to be very tough but once Stanley gets to know them they are actually very nice. A few of the boys' names are Theodore, Brian, Alan and X.

I think this book is a very great choice for all readers. It is very edgy and the author does a great job basically putting you in the place of Stanley. It feels like I am the one digging the holes in the hot weather. This book is also very humorous, there are a lot of funny parts and the characters are very funny. I can relate to this book on many scales and makes me think about the roughness of life at times. Also this book is very easy to read there aren't many parts where it is hard to understand or challenging to read. The theme of this book is very crazy and all you want is to see what happens in the next chapter. I would especially recommend this book to people that liked the books either Hatchet or Wonder because the story line is similar and they are all very adventurous books.
