When I read the synopsis was intrigued by how I have personally never read a book that talked about drug addiction and its consequences. This book is eye opening, sad, and even heartwarming.
There was this girl Sophie Winters, she hasn’t had the easiest time in the past few months. Her best friend Mina was murdered in what is believed to be a drug deal that went very wrong. She took out her frustration and pain with pills and drugs. She quickly became addicted and couldn’t imagine a life without drugs. Her family saw that the problem escalated quickly. She is receiving the help she needs, but it isn’t an easy journey; she has her ups and downs. She was in a facility to give her treatment and guide her to recovery in Oregon. Once she leaves the rehabilitation center she has a very hard time with withdrawals and how to handle them. She fights against her family to prove to them she needs the drugs to make the pain go away but they aren’t caving in and giving them to her.
She thinks all that she has in life is her drugs and that is the only way to cope with trauma. She doesn’t realize that her family is doing what is best. I can see how hard it is for her from how she expresses her emotions and it makes you think about all the people who are in the same position in real life and we never know.
I think this book can help people realize that there can always be someone there to help you. It is nice to see that her aunt is so caring and is truly concerned about her current state. I feel like this book can be good for anyone to read even if you have been is Sophie’s position or not. It can help inform you that this is a real problem people have and it is very hard for them.
