The Town of Football
Friday Night Lights

Have you ever heard of a town spending more money on their football program than their education? Well that was achieved by the town, Odessa.
Friday Night Lights is a realistic fiction book written by H.G. Bessinger about a small town with a big heart. The town of Odessa was dedicated to football, they spent more money on their football program then schools and their education. The Odessa football program has been an unstoppable force for many years due to the dedication of kids and coaches working hard everyday. Every single year there was a strong showing at tryouts of at least fifty kids and most towns would be happy to get around thirty five. All the kids gave it their all and would not take a single minute off because of how much it men't to them to be on this team. James Miles, Mike Winchell, Brian Chavez, and Ivory Christian lead the team along with their coach Gary Gaines. Every game they would come out battling hard, they ran into many obstacles with injuries, people lacking confidence and other problems but they always pushed through. They continued to push through the season giving it all they had and never gave up, after all their whole town is built off of this game.
Overall, this is a very interesting book that I would recommend to people as long as they don’t mind a slow start. The book has a great story line with things that will happen to real football teams and people. I would really recommend this book to people who understand football, but also it is really good for people that don’t understand football. The author makes everything understandable and even if someone is clueless about football they can still enjoy the book. This book also relates to other sports and life in general, it shows struggles that people face in sports but they can also relate to life. I feel like this book can get people to realize you can overcome an injury like one player in this book did. This was a serious injury too: an ACL tear. This is an injury that a lot of people have tough times overcoming. This book also showed me what great hustle and determination can do. If you put your mind to something and work at it day in and day out you will achieve it. Also, nothing is out of your reach, you should always try to do the best you can and that will generate the best result.
Lastly, I would recommend this book to kids and adults of any age. It can be read by adults and younger kids could read this although there are some tough words. The story can be understood by all ages. The author Mike Lupica has some similar stories so if you enjoy his books you will certainly enjoy this book. The story lines are similar in some ways, and they all portray good leadership and determination.

Nice review of this book. Sound like some good life lessons are in this book like overcoming adversity by working hard as a team to overcome obstacles.
